The Spectrograph
JILA Fellow John Hall will deliver the 2006 Richard C. Lord Lecture on May 2, on “Optical clocks, combs and coherence: defining and measuring optical frequency.” Born in 1934 in Denver, Hall is an alumnus of the Carnegie Institute of Technology, where he received B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. He conducted postdoctoral studies at the Department of Commerce’s National Bureau of Standards, now cal...
متن کاملThe Wide Field Spectrograph ( WiFeS )
This paper describes the Wide Field Spectrograph (WiFeS) under construction at the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) of the Australian National University (ANU) for the ANU 2.3m telescope at the Siding Spring Observatory. WiFeS is a powerful integral field, double-beam, concentric, image-slicing spectrograph designed to deliver excellent thoughput, wavelength stability, spect...
متن کاملA New Spectrograph Platform for Auroral Studies in Svalbard
A versatile spectrograph platform has been installed by University College London at the Adventdalen Observatory in Svalbard. The platform was primarily built to support the Southampton University study of proton aurora and smallscale auroral features. It has successfully recorded the spectral profile of the Doppler broadened H-beta emission line (486.1 nm) and observed the predicted red shifte...

fects are described as a function of ß0 under a constant value of 3 0 . Fig. 18 illustrates the results. Only by the present instrument the image defects can be decreased with decreasing ß0 . Acknowledgement The author wishes to express his thanks to Professor K . O G A T A and Professor H . M A T S U D A for many helpful discussions and suggestions, to Dr. S. K I S A K A , Manager of his Labor...
متن کاملSpectrograph Imager on Keck
Using the Echellete Spectrograph Imager (ESI) on the Keck II 10-m telescope we have measured the redshifts of the host galaxies of gamma-ray bursts GRB990506 and GRB000418, z = 1.30658 ± 0.00004 and 1.1181 ± 0.0001, respectively. Thanks to the excellent spectral resolution of ESI (λ/∆λ = 13000) we resolved the [O II] 3727 doublet in both cases. The measured redshift of GRB990506 is the highest ...
